An ECO4 Grant (Energy Company Obligation grant) is a UK Government grant scheme designed to help low-income households improve energy efficiency in their homes.

It provides funding for measures such as insulation, renewables (Solar Panels and Air Source Heat Pumps) and heating upgrades. The average grant is £30,000+

ECO4 Grant Qualification (as of 2025)

To qualify for the ECO4 scheme (the latest phase, running from 2022–2026), you typically must meet both property and household eligibility criteria:

  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit or Savings Credit)
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Child Benefit (with income threshold — see below)

Even if you’re not on benefits, you may qualify under ECO4 Flex if:

  • Your total gross household income must be no more than £31,000 per year, OR
  • You suffer from one of the following health conditions listed below.
  • A cardiovascular condition.
  • A respiratory disease.
  • Limited mobility.
  • Immunosuppression.
  • The property must be privately owned or privately rented.
  • It must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G
  • If privately rented, the landlord must agree and meet certain requirements.
  • Loft, cavity wall, or solid wall insulation
  • Air source heat pumps
  • First-time central heating
  • Solar panels
  • Boiler upgrades (in some cases)
