Free Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation. Government Grants are still available in Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Taunton and throughout the South West.
And they are not repayable.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE
THE EXISTING GOVERNMENT GRANT SCHEMES ARE COMING TO AN END.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the partial removal of green levies from household energy bills in her Autumn Budget speech on November 26, 2025. This will take effect from 6th April 2026. The green levy is the vehicle that funds the ECO and GBIS grant schemes.
However, because of the time that it takes to carryout surveys, install the work and installers to receive funds, no new applications will be accepted after 24th February. This applies to ECO4 and The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS).
We do not know what, if anything, will replace the existing scheme.
Ed Miliband’s (Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero) flagship energy efficiency policy, which has seen its total investment increased to nearly £15 billion. Exact details have not yet been announced. We should hear more in February 2026. This is what we know so far:
- Solar & Heat Pump Grants: The government is set to allocate roughly £13 billion over the next four years for new grants specifically for solar panels, battery storage, and heat pumps.
- Targeted Support: While official eligibility details are still being finalised, the scheme aims to help millions of homeowners, with the most significant assistance for upfront costs directed toward lower-income households and social housing.
- Low-Cost Loans: In addition to direct grants, a new system of low-cost loans is expected to be launched, allowing homeowners to install green technology with no upfront costs and repaying through their energy bills over 5–10 years.
- Heat Pump Grant Extension: The existing £7,500 grants for heat pump installations will remain in place at least until the next general election.
If you are interested in having Solar Panels and an Air Source Heat Pump, please complete our enquiry form and choose the Solar Panels & Heat Pump option.
However, there is still plenty of time for yet another U-turn – watch this space.

Summary of Cavity Wall Insulation FAQs
In a rush? This is a summary of our FAQs. The full version can be found here.
1. Qualifying for a grant
- Two main routes:
a. General Group — no benefit requirement. No income threshold. The criteria is
• Council Tax band A‑D (England) or A‑E (Wales) and
• EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating D, E, F or G - b. Low Income Group — if you’re receiving certain benefits (e.g. Pension Credit, Universal Credit, etc.) and your EPC rating is D‑G. Income thresholds apply for child benefit qualification.
2. How to apply & surveys
- We handle all the paperwork: eligibility, survey, grant application, etc.
- A free no‑obligation survey is carried out, which includes a Cavity Assessment Survey (CAS) to check if the walls are suitable for insulation.
3. Government scheme & guarantee
- The scheme is part of the Great British Insulation Scheme, under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), funded indirectly via energy bills.
- Once installed, there’s a 25-year guarantee via the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) — provided the property passes the Cavity Assessment Survey.
4. Suitability of your house
- Homes built after 1925 are more likely to have cavity walls. Key factors: there must be an unfilled cavity, cavity width of at least 50mm, external brickwork/masonry generally in good condition.
- Some types of properties may not be suitable: e.g. concrete construction, timber‑framed, or homes that already have insulation installed. Also, any damp issues must be addressed first.
5. Materials used & process
- We use “SuperBead” polystyrene beads (not mineral fibre) for the insulation. SuperBead has good thermal efficiency, resists water, reduces or even eradicates condensation, provides fire safety, and has durability (potentially for the life of the building).
- Installation: drill small holes in the external walls (approx. 22mm), blow the beads in, then fill and colour‑match the holes. Works from the bottom up. For a typical house, the job takes 2‑3 hours.
6. Benefits & impact
- Significant reductions in heat loss through walls (walls are a major source of heat loss – 35%), lower fuel bills ( £400/year for a 3-bed semi with mains gas).
- Helps reduce or eradicate condensation and mould, more comfortable indoor temperature, environmental benefits like lower CO₂ emissions (up to 3 tonnes/year).
7. Risks / potential issues
- Damp: If your home has existing damp issues (structural or otherwise), the survey will fail, and no grant will be approved. Must resolve damp before insulation is installed.
- Past issues with inappropriate insulation in unsuitable walls (leading to damp problems) are acknowledged. Newer insulation material and quality control (with the CAS & audit procedures) aim to avoid these.
The Green Home Grant Scheme
The Green Home Grant scheme was cancelled by the Government on 31st March 2021. It has now been replaced by The Great British Insulation Scheme.
